What is Moneda’s Privacy Policy?
You can view our Privacy Policy on our website: https://moneda.com/privacy
Where is Moneda incorporated?
Moneda is incorporated in Berlin, Germany. As a German company, we are subject to German and European law, including data protection law (GDPR). Moneda itself is not a regulated financial institution. Regulated services, such as virtual accounts and identity verification, are provided by licensed partners. Our incorporation in Germany reflects our commitment to operating with integrity and transparency.
Is Moneda available in my country?
You can use Moneda if you are at least 18 years old and have your permanent residence in a country where we offer our services. Moneda is not available to residents or nationals of sanctioned countries and regions, or to anyone barred from using it under applicable laws. Some features, such as certain shares or funds, can differ by country. You are responsible for making sure your use of Moneda complies with the laws that apply to you, so check the financial and blockchain rules in your own country before using Moneda.
Are my EUR and USD balances regulated?
The stablecoins are; Moneda is not. Moneda itself is not regulated and does not issue stablecoins. Your EUR and USD balances are held as stablecoins (EURC and USDC) in your own self-custodial account. These are electronic money tokens issued by their issuers under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). They are denominated in euros or dollars and must be backed by reserves, but they are not fiat money and are not covered by a deposit guarantee scheme.
Other stablecoins available in the app may be issued outside the European Union and may not be electronic money tokens under MiCA. The app tells you which applies.
Does Moneda comply with GDPR?
Yes. Moneda processes your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This means:
- Data protection: We protect your data with measures such as encryption and access controls, and use it only for the purposes set out in our Privacy Policy.
- Transparency: Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it and who we share it with.
- Your rights: You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, restrict or object to certain processing, receive a copy of your data, and withdraw consent. Some data must be kept for periods set by law, such as identity verification records, even after you delete your account.
- Data sharing: We do not sell your personal data. We share it with the service providers and partners that help us run Moneda, such as Sumsub for identity verification and MoonPay Enterprise (formerly Iron) for virtual accounts and bank transfers, and with authorities where the law requires it. To use your rights, write to privacy@moneda.com.
Do I need to pay taxes on my earnings?
You are responsible for reporting any earnings or gains from your Moneda account in accordance with the tax laws of your country. Earnings on your balance and gains from stablecoins, shares, funds or other digital assets may be taxable. Moneda does not provide tax advice and recommends consulting a tax professional to understand your obligations. You can also use your Moneda account address to look up and export your transaction history to help with tax reporting.
What is KYC, and why is it important?
KYC (Know Your Customer) is the process of verifying your identity before you can access Moneda’s financial services, such as opening a virtual account, topping up, or withdrawing funds. It involves confirming your identity using a government-issued ID (like a passport, national ID card, or driver’s licence), completing a short liveness or selfie check to prove it’s really you, and providing proof of address, such as a utility bill or bank statement issued within the last three months. KYC is a legal requirement for the regulated partners that provide these services, and it helps prevent fraud, money laundering, and sanctions evasion. It also protects your account from unauthorised access and ensures we can apply the right limits and permissions to your account once verified. Completing KYC early unlocks access to virtual accounts, higher limits, and faster transfers.
What documents are required for identity verification?
You’ll complete KYC once in the Moneda app through our verification partner, Sumsub. This quick verification unlocks essential features like virtual accounts, deposits, and withdrawals. To verify your identity, you’ll need to provide the following: • A government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, national ID card, driver’s license, or residence permit. • A short selfie or liveness check to confirm the document belongs to you. • A recent proof of address, such as a utility bill or bank statement issued within the last three months. You’ll also be asked to complete a short questionnaire covering: • Your employment or source of income. • Your expected transaction volumes and use of the account. Depending on your verification tier or transaction size, we may later request additional documentation showing the source of your funds. This ensures compliance with financial regulations and keeps your account secure.
What documents are supported as proof for the source of funds?
To verify the source of your funds, you’ll need to provide documentation that clearly shows where your money comes from. This is a standard compliance requirement designed to prevent financial crime and ensure regulatory transparency. Acceptable documents include: • Bank statements showing the origin of your funds and a steady pattern of income. • Employment or income records, such as recent payslips, employment contracts, or proof of regular salary payments. • Tax returns or official tax declarations confirming your reported income. • Sale agreements or proof of asset sales, for example, documentation showing proceeds from the sale of property or investments. • Loan agreements or statements from licensed financial institutions. • Dividend declarations or shareholder records showing company distributions. • Other credible financial documents issued by recognised authorities or licensed institutions that demonstrate a legitimate source of income.
Which functionalities require me to verify my identity?
You’ll be asked to complete the KYC process before you’re able to request a virtual account on Moneda. For USD and EUR transfers, KYC may also be required when you add a new bank account (either your own or a contact’s) if you haven’t already completed verification before. Completing KYC early ensures there are no interruptions when you start moving funds. Once you’re verified, your virtual account details will appear automatically, and you’ll have access to higher limits and a smoother transfer experience.
Why can identity verification fail?
Identity verification can fail when we can't confirm your details. Common reasons are:
- The ID document is expired, blurry, cropped or not supported
- The selfie doesn't match the photo on your ID
- The proof of address is missing, older than 3 months, or doesn't show your full name and address
- Your personal details (name, date of birth, address) don't match your documents
- Required questions about your employment, income or use of the account were skipped
If you can, try again with clear, valid documents. If you have questions, go to Help Centre > Talk to Support.
Can I resubmit my documents if my identity verification was incomplete?
You may be able to resubmit the documents if the documents you added were not clear or incomplete. You can do so by going to Settings > Identity Verification to resend the required information for your KYC. Please keep in mind the following: • Re-submit clear, full-colour images of your documents, showing all corners. • Ensure your details you input to Moneda exactly match your ID and proof of address. • Use a recent proof of address document (issued within the last 3 months). • If available, use a passport, as it’s the most reliable form of ID across jurisdictions. • If you believe the rejection was an error, contact us via our support channels so we can review and guide you through what’s missing.
My KYC application got rejected. What does that mean?
A rejected application means we could not verify your identity to the standard required by us or our partners. As a result, you won’t be able to access the features on Moneda that require identity verification, such as virtual accounts and bank transfers. If you have any questions or believe this is an error, go to Help Centre > Talk to Support so we can review your case.
Can I delete my account to restart my KYC application?
You cannot delete your account in order to restart or bypass the identity verification process. Identity checks are conducted in accordance with applicable financial regulations and are linked to your identity, not just your account. If your verification was unsuccessful or you believe there was an error, please contact support so we can review your case or guide you through the appropriate next steps. Deleting your account will not reset the KYC process, and certain information must be retained for legal and regulatory reasons.
What data is stored after I delete my account?
When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep it longer or we need it to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. This means some data is kept after deletion:
- Identity verification (KYC) records • Kept by us or our regulated partners, as required by anti-money laundering laws. Moneda does not keep a copy of your identity documents. • Retention: typically 5 years after the end of the business relationship.
- Records we must keep by law • Other records that tax, commercial or financial laws require us to keep are retained for the period those laws set.
- Disputes and legal claims • Data may be kept longer where it is needed to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
- Blockchain data • Your account address and transactions are recorded on public blockchains. We do not control them and cannot delete them. Anything we keep for legal reasons stays protected and is not used for any other purpose.
What personal data does Moneda collect, and why?
Moneda collects personal data for several purposes:
- Account Management: your name, email address, and other details necessary to create and authenticate your account.
- Communication: your name, email, and the content of your messages when you contact us, so we can respond and improve support.
- Transaction Facilitation: data needed to facilitate the blockchain transactions you initiate via third-party providers. Moneda itself is not regulated. Regulated financial services are provided by licensed partners.
- Personalisation: preferences, goals, and risk tolerance you configure, used to show general suggestions. This is information, not investment advice.
- AI features: your messages, files you upload, and the account information needed to answer you (such as balances, recent transactions, and verification status), used by Moneda AI, chat support, and receipt scanning.
- Identity verification: an ID document, a selfie, and proof of address, only if you choose features that legally require it.
- Security and fraud prevention: blockchain addresses are monitored so you do not interact with known fraudulent accounts.
- Mandatory Service Notifications: essential account activity, security alerts, system updates, and transaction confirmations. These are service-related, not promotional.
- Newsletters: only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Does Moneda use AI, and what happens to my data when I use AI features or connect a third-party AI assistant?
Yes. Moneda uses artificial intelligence for in-app chat support, Moneda AI (our assistant, which answers questions about your account and researches markets), and extracting data from receipts you upload. To provide these features, your messages, uploaded files, and relevant account information (such as your balances, recent transactions, and verification status) may be processed by our AI infrastructure providers, including OpenRouter and Modal Labs. They process your data only to generate the requested response or extraction.
Moneda AI can save facts such as your goals and preferences so later answers fit you. You can ask it what it remembers and ask it to forget any item. Moneda may use the content of your conversations to train its own AI models, after removing direct identifiers and account figures. Your content is not passed to other companies to train theirs, and you can object at any time by writing to privacy@moneda.com.
If you connect a third-party AI assistant you authorise, it can access the account data covered by the permissions you grant, and any money transfer it proposes needs your explicit in-app approval. That provider's own privacy policy applies to what it does with the data, and you can end the connection at any time.
How does Moneda verify my identity (KYC), and what happens to my ID documents?
If you access features involving fiat currency or other regulated financial services (for example, linking a bank account, topping up in EUR or USD, withdrawing to a bank, or opening a virtual IBAN account), you'll be asked to complete identity verification (KYC) as required by law. This one-time process collects a government-issued photo ID, a live selfie for liveness verification, and a recent proof of address, used only to verify your identity, comply with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, and enable the requested services.
Our current KYC verification partner is Sumsub. Sumsub collects and processes your identification documents on our behalf. Moneda does not keep a copy of your identity documents. Where a regulated partner needs your identity information to open your account, it is shared with that partner. This KYC process is only initiated for users who opt to use financial features that legally require it.
Does Moneda store my Face ID or fingerprint data?
No. Face ID or fingerprint information is used to confirm secure sign-ins and transaction approvals for your self-custodial wallet. This biometric data is processed locally on your device and is not stored by or accessible to Moneda.
What are my rights under GDPR, and how do I exercise them?
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access (Art. 15): confirm whether we process your data and receive a copy, with details of purpose, origin, and recipients.
- Rectification (Art. 16): correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure (Art. 17): request deletion where processing is no longer necessary, you've withdrawn consent, or data was unlawfully processed (exceptions may apply, e.g. legal retention obligations).
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18): e.g. while we verify accuracy or assess an objection.
- Data portability (Art. 20): receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format and have it transmitted to another controller.
- Object (Art. 21): object to processing based on legitimate interests, including any use of your conversations to train AI models.
- Withdraw consent (Art. 7(3)): at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
- Lodge a complaint (Art. 77): with the relevant supervisory authority.
Our services are only available to people aged 18 or over, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@moneda.com, or write to Moneda Digital GmbH, Wilmersdorfer Str. 122-123, 10627, Berlin, Germany. Moneda's lead supervisory authority is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, Alt-Moabit 59-61, 10555 Berlin).
What legal basis does Moneda rely on to process my data?
Moneda processes data under four legal bases: performance of a contract (delivering the services you've requested, e.g. account setup); legitimate interests (operating and improving our services, security, and support, balanced against your privacy rights); legal obligations (e.g. AML identity verification, tax laws); and consent for specific cases like optional newsletters or certain analytics cookies, where required by law. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Does Moneda sell my data, and what service providers does it use?
Moneda does not sell your personal data. We share certain data with trusted third-party service providers to operate the service and comply with legal requirements: cloud hosting, authentication services, push notification and email services, other IT infrastructure, and payment processing. These providers only process your data under our instructions and for the purposes we specify. All third-party partners are bound by strict data protection obligations, must handle your data securely and only for defined purposes, and are not allowed to use your data for their own purposes. Moneda remains responsible for protecting your data throughout these engagements.
Which company holds my virtual IBAN or bank account, and what data do they get?
Virtual EUR/USD accounts and conversions between bank money and your Moneda balance are provided by our regulated financial partner, MoonPay Enterprise (formerly Iron), not by Moneda. If you choose to use these features, we securely share the personal data needed to open and operate your account with MoonPay Enterprise, for example your name, contact details, and confirmation that you have passed identity verification. Where the partner needs your identity information to open your account, that is shared too. Your data is shared only if you choose to use these features, not before.
Does Moneda screen my transactions against sanctions lists?
Yes. Moneda screens incoming blockchain transactions against sanctions and watchlists using Chainalysis, which processes the relevant wallet addresses and transaction details. This screening is automated. Where you use regulated financial services that require identity verification, a match may lead to those services being suspended while a member of our compliance team reviews the case. You can ask for that review and give your view by contacting us.
Who processes my card payments for subscriptions or credits?
If you purchase a subscription or usage credits by card, your payment is processed by Stripe. Your card details are sent directly to Stripe and never pass through Moneda's servers. We receive only a payment confirmation and reference token.
Does Moneda transfer my data outside the EU/EEA?
Yes, in some cases. Some of our providers, including AI infrastructure and model providers, process personal data outside the EU and EEA, including in the United States. We only transfer your data outside the EU or EEA if: (a) the destination country has an EU Commission adequacy decision, (b) we've put in place appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with the recipient, or (c) you've given explicit consent for that specific transfer.
When would Moneda share my data with law enforcement or regulators?
Moneda may disclose personal data to government authorities, law enforcement, or regulators if legally required, for example to fulfill a court order or legal request, or to comply with anti-money laundering reporting obligations. We only share what is necessary and will notify you of such disclosures when permitted by law.
How long does Moneda keep my data, and what happens if I delete my account?
We retain your personal data for as long as you have an active account, or as long as necessary for the purposes in the Privacy Policy. If you delete your account (or ask us to), we delete or anonymise your data within 30 days of the request, unless a longer retention is legally required or necessary to resolve disputes or enforce agreements.
Certain data must be retained for fixed periods due to legal obligations. For example, KYC identity verification records must be retained by us (or our regulated partners) under anti-money laundering laws for a minimum period, typically five years after the end of our business relationship with you, even if you request account deletion. Data retained for legal reasons stays protected and is not used for any other purpose.
AI features have their own periods: conversations are kept until you delete them or your account (otherwise message content is removed five years after it was sent), temporary chats are deleted from your history within 48 hours, and files you attach in chat are kept for up to 90 days.
How does Moneda protect my data, and can Moneda access my crypto wallet or private keys?
Moneda uses industry-standard security measures: encryption in transit and at rest, access controls limiting personal data to authorised personnel on a need-to-know basis, and pseudonymisation to minimise exposure of sensitive data when working with third parties.
Important: Moneda does not store or have access to your private keys or your funds. Those remain under your control. You sign in and approve actions with Passkeys kept on your own devices, and keeping access to them is your responsibility. Moneda cannot access or recover your funds if you lose access, so set up a backup passkey, a recovery email or Recovery Contacts before you need them. Because your keys never reach our servers, even a breach of Moneda's systems would not compromise your assets.
Is my blockchain transaction data private?
No. When you initiate blockchain transactions through Moneda (e.g. swaps, lending, transfers), your wallet's public address and transaction details are submitted to public blockchain networks and permanently recorded there. This on-chain data may be publicly viewable by anyone and cannot be altered or erased once confirmed in a block. Moneda does not control the blockchain networks or the storage of data on them. If you interact with third-party decentralized protocols through Moneda, those protocols may have their own data practices, so review their privacy policies separately. Because this data lives on a public blockchain Moneda doesn't control, on-chain data falls outside the scope of GDPR erasure rights.
What happens if there's a data breach?
If a data breach affects personal data, Moneda follows all applicable legal requirements. Where required, we notify the competent data protection authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach (Art. 33 GDPR). If the breach is likely to result in a high risk to you, we inform you without undue delay (Art. 34 GDPR), by in-app notification or email (or both). We tell you the nature of the breach, the data affected, the steps we're taking, and what you can do to protect yourself, and we provide updates once the immediate threat is contained.
Does Moneda have a Data Protection Officer?
No. Under Art. 37 GDPR and §38 BDSG (German Federal Data Protection Act), Moneda Digital GmbH is not legally required to appoint a Data Protection Officer, because our core activities do not consist of large-scale processing of sensitive data categories that would mandate one.
Is Moneda a bank, and does it hold my funds?
No. Moneda is a financial technology company, not a bank. The Moneda app gives you a self-custodial account for digital assets such as USD and EUR stablecoins, an AI assistant (Moneda AI) that researches markets and helps you manage your account, and access to services provided by third parties: virtual accounts and payments, trading in tokenised shares and exchange-traded funds, trading in crypto-assets, and earning on your balance through third-party DeFi protocols. Each of those services is provided by the relevant provider under its own terms. Moneda does not provide regulated financial or custodial services and does not manage, control or hold your assets. Your wallets and transactions are fully self-custodial: transactions happen directly between you and the relevant blockchain network, and Moneda cannot control, modify or reverse them. Only you hold your credentials, such as your Passkeys.
Who is eligible to use Moneda?
To use Moneda's services you must: be a natural person with full legal capacity, at least 18 years old; have your permanent residence in a country where the services are offered; not be barred from using the services under applicable law; agree to comply with the Terms and all relevant local/international regulations on self-custody wallets and decentralized finance; and provide any information required by Moneda or its third-party partners, including for identity verification when requested.
Are the stablecoins in my Moneda account insured like a bank deposit?
No. The app may show stablecoin balances in their fiat-equivalent values ('USD' or 'EUR'), but stablecoins are not fiat money. USDC and EURC are electronic money tokens (EMTs) issued and maintained by their issuers under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). They are denominated in fiat currency and must be backed by reserves, but they are not covered by any deposit guarantee scheme or state guarantee under EU or national law. Other stablecoins available in the app may be issued outside the European Union and may not be EMTs under MiCA. The app tells you which applies.
Is Moneda a regulated financial institution?
No. Moneda is not a regulated entity and does not act as a bank, broker, financial institution, credit institution, electronic money institution (EMI), financial service provider or Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP). Moneda does not issue, redeem or hold custody of any assets on your behalf. It provides non-custodial software that lets you interact with your assets in a self-custodial manner. Where the app gives you access to regulated third-party providers, such as MoonPay Enterprise (formerly Iron) for virtual accounts and bank transfers, or Dinari for tokenised shares and funds, those services are provided under the provider's own terms, which you accept separately. Moneda is not a party to that contract and is not responsible for those services.
What is Moneda's relationship with MoonPay Enterprise (formerly Iron), and who am I contracting with for virtual accounts?
Moneda integrates with MoonPay Enterprise (formerly Iron), a licensed financial partner that provides regulated fiat account and payment services, such as virtual IBAN accounts and automated conversion between fiat currency and digital assets. To use these features you must complete identity verification (KYC) through Sumsub and accept MoonPay Enterprise's own Terms of Service, which are presented to you separately. Once you have passed KYC and accepted those terms, MoonPay Enterprise creates the required accounts in your name and you become its direct customer for those services. Moneda is not a party to that contract and is not responsible or liable for MoonPay Enterprise's services or performance. Moneda's role is limited to providing the interface through which you use them. Disputes about those services (account errors, delayed transfers and similar) go to MoonPay Enterprise and are governed by its terms, which may specify a different governing law from Moneda's Terms.
Can Moneda reverse or control my blockchain transactions?
No. All blockchain transactions are initiated directly by you and take place between your wallet and the network. Moneda does not act as a messenger or representative, and has no control over your wallets or transactions. Blockchain transactions cannot be amended, reversed or withdrawn, and Moneda cannot correct or reverse them. Moneda does not buy, sell or take custody of any assets, and does not act as counterparty, broker or custodian. Where you trade tokenised shares and funds in the app, the orders are executed by Dinari, not by Moneda. Any payment or transaction information shown in the app is retrieved from the relevant third-party provider or public blockchain.
What am I responsible for regarding my account credentials, and will Moneda ever ask for them?
You're responsible for safeguarding your credentials (your Passkeys and any private keys) and for giving accurate, up-to-date information. You must not let anyone else use your Moneda account or your credentials. The only way to share funds with another person is a joint account. Moneda employees will never ask you for your Passkeys, private keys or other credentials. Never share them or approve unknown third-party access (for example screen sharing, or installing software that claims to be an 'investment tool'). Such requests are likely fraudulent. If you receive one, notify Moneda immediately. Because blockchain transactions are irreversible, giving a third party access to your account or wallets can mean losing your assets for good, and Moneda is not liable for such losses unless the access was directly caused by Moneda's own breach of its obligations.
Can Moneda recover my wallet if I lose my credentials? What is Self Custodial Recovery?
No. Moneda does not record, hold or manage your Passkeys, private keys or other wallet credentials, and cannot access your assets or recover lost wallets or funds. 'Self Custodial Recovery' is the recovery setup you choose yourself in the app, for example a backup Passkey, a recovery email or Recovery Contacts (people you nominate, which can include yourself). It is controlled by your own account on the blockchain, and Moneda has no influence over it once you have set it up. Moneda does not act as a recoverer, does not offer recovery services and is not responsible for notifying you about a recovery process. If you lose your credentials and have no working recovery option in place, you will likely lose access to your wallets and the assets in them, which is effectively the same as losing the assets. Set up recovery before you need it.
When do I need to complete KYC, and what happens if I don't?
Certain features subject to anti-money laundering (AML) and related regulations require identity verification (KYC) before they're unlocked, for example converting between fiat and digital assets (on/off-ramp) or obtaining a virtual account. KYC is completed through our third-party provider, Sumsub, and requires accurate personal information and documentation (government ID, proof of address, selfie). If you fail to complete KYC, or verification isn't successful to the required standard, you won't get access to those regulated features. Providing false, misleading, or incomplete information during KYC violates the Terms and may result in suspension or termination of your account. Moneda can also restrict or terminate access if verification isn't completed satisfactorily, if fraud or illegal conduct is suspected, or to comply with legal obligations.
What activities are prohibited when using Moneda?
You may not use Moneda's services if you: use or intend to use funds from illegal activity (money laundering, fraud, terrorism financing); attempt to evade KYC/AML or other regulatory requirements; try to interfere with or gain unauthorized access to the service or other users' accounts; attempt to reverse-engineer Moneda's software; are a resident, national, or agent of a Restricted Territory (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Belarus, Russia, and certain Ukrainian regions, or any other embargoed jurisdiction); appear on an EU/UK/US/UN sanctions list or intend to transact with a sanctioned person; exploit vulnerabilities in connected third-party apps; spam or send fraudulent advertising; interfere with the service's availability (viruses, flooding, spamming); perform address poisoning; engage in wash trading or manipulative trading; fabricate transactions; or conduct scams such as phishing, impersonation, rug pulls, or Sybil attacks. Moneda can immediately terminate an account or refuse access if it determines, at its sole discretion, that any of these occurred.
Does Moneda give investment or financial advice?
No. Moneda does not provide financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and does not manage your assets. Moneda AI provides information, research and illustrative portfolios based on market data, public filings and what you tell it. It is an automated system and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. What it produces is not a personal recommendation and does not take account of your full financial situation, so check anything that matters before you act on it. Every decision to buy, sell, hold or transfer is yours, and nothing is executed unless you approve it. Where Moneda AI discusses a service that Moneda earns fees from, it says so. Articles, tutorials and news on the website and in the app are general information only. Consult a qualified professional about your own situation.
What fees does Moneda charge?
Moneda may charge fees for certain features, and any fee is shown in the app before you use the feature. Third-party services you reach through Moneda may charge their own fees, and Moneda may charge a 'Service Fee' for providing access to them, either directly to you or included in the third party's fee. Blockchain transactions may also carry network fees deducted directly by the network, and they are final once confirmed. Payments you make to Moneda for a paid plan or AI credits follow the cancellation and refund rules in the Terms. If Moneda increases the price of your plan, you are told at least 30 days in advance and the new price applies from your next renewal after that, so you can cancel first. A new price for AI credits or a new Service Fee applies only to purchases and transactions you make after the change, and is always shown before you confirm.
Is Moneda responsible if a third-party dApp I connect to is hacked or malicious?
No. Any interaction with third-party decentralized apps (dApps) is at your own risk and responsibility. Moneda is not responsible or liable for the actions or inactions of dApps or third-party providers, or for losses from security vulnerabilities, hacks, or other incidents affecting them. Some third-party services may collect or process your personal data, handled under that provider's own privacy policy, not Moneda's. You're solely responsible for assessing the security and reliability of any third-party service or app you choose to interact with through Moneda.
Are Moneda Points worth money, and can I trade or cash them out?
Not for money. Moneda Points are non-monetary, offchain accounting entries kept in Moneda's internal systems, not recorded on any blockchain. They have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed for cash, fiat currency, stablecoins or crypto-assets. The only thing they can be exchanged for is AI credits, where and for as long as Moneda offers this, at the rate and within the minimum and maximum amounts shown in the app. Redemption is final: AI credits obtained this way cannot be turned back into points, refunded or paid out. Points are not transferable or tradeable unless Moneda explicitly authorises it in writing, and they create no ownership or contractual right against Moneda. Taking part is optional and does not guarantee any future reward or benefit. Moneda can change, suspend or end the programme at any time, and points may then be reduced, forfeited or made unusable without compensation. Points have no value or effect if your account is closed or on Moneda's insolvency or dissolution.
How can my Moneda account be terminated or suspended, and what happens to my wallet?
You can terminate at any time by ceasing use of the services and, if applicable, withdrawing your assets and contacting support to deactivate your account. Moneda can terminate for convenience with reasonable notice (at least 30 days for paid features, when feasible), or suspend or terminate immediately without notice for cause, for example if you violated the Terms or engaged in prohibited or illegal activity, provided false KYC information, no longer comply with applicable law (such as becoming a resident of a Restricted Territory or appearing on a sanctions list), or a regulatory authority or a third-party partner such as MoonPay Enterprise (formerly Iron) requires it.
Upon termination, all rights under the Terms end, your access to the services (including Moneda Points) ends, any unused AI credits lapse, and any related third-party contractual relationships end too. Your wallet itself does not cease to exist. It can still be accessed with compatible non-custodial tools, provided you keep your credentials, though Moneda doesn't warrant that third-party access will be technically possible. Transfer your assets out of your wallet before termination takes effect, since Moneda can neither access nor restore your credentials if they are lost.
What is Moneda's liability if something goes wrong?
If you use Moneda as a consumer, Moneda is liable without limitation for damages from injury to life, body or health caused by an intentional or negligent breach of duty, for other damages caused by an intentional or grossly negligent breach or by fraudulent concealment, under the German Product Liability Act and other mandatory statutory liability, and to the extent Moneda has given a guarantee. For slightly negligent breaches of essential contractual obligations, Moneda is liable only for typical, foreseeable damage. Liability is otherwise excluded.
In all other cases, Moneda's aggregate liability under the Terms is capped at the total amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the first incident, or €5,000 if you have paid no fees (claims relating to proprietary rights or indemnification obligations excepted), and Moneda is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary or punitive damages, including lost profits, revenue or data.
Subject to the consumer rules above, Moneda as a technical, non-custodial provider excludes liability for blockchain transactions and network interactions and for loss of your keys or credentials, except where the damage is directly attributable to a malfunction of Moneda's own software, as well as for account or wallet access authorised with your credentials and for the actions of third-party providers you have a separate agreement with.
How will I know if the Terms of Service change?
Moneda tells you about a change to the Terms in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and shows you what is changing. Changes that only add features, correct errors, or are required by law or by a regulator take effect on the date you are told. Any other change takes effect only if you agree to it in the app. This includes changes that add payment obligations or otherwise have negative legal or commercial consequences for you, which need your explicit consent. If you do not consent, Moneda may stop providing all or part of the services to you or end the contract, provided you were told about that consequence together with the proposed change. Price changes follow their own rules: you get at least 30 days' notice of a plan price increase.
I chose the wrong country of residence. Can I change it?
If your identity verification isn't approved yet, you can change it yourself in Settings > Account > Country of residence.
Once your verification is approved, your country of residence is locked and can't be changed, including by our support team. If you have questions, go to Help Centre > Talk to Support.
Why do I need to give my tax ID if I live in the EU?
EU tax rules (the DAC8 directive) require the regulated partner that processes your bank transfers to collect a tax identification number (TIN) from every customer who lives in the EU, together with the country that issued it. This applies to everyone, whatever your balance or how often you use Moneda.
Which number to give Use the personal tax number issued by your country of tax residence. In the app, the field shows the name your country uses for it. Some examples:
- Germany: Steuerliche Identifikationsnummer (IdNr), 11 digits
- France: Numéro fiscal de référence (SPI), 13 digits
- Spain: DNI or NIE
- Italy: Codice fiscale
- Netherlands: BSN (Burgerservicenummer)
- Portugal: Número de Identificação Fiscal (NIF)
- Poland: PESEL
- Austria: Steuernummer
Where to find it It is usually printed on your tax assessment, your tax return or your payslip. In some countries (for example Spain, Italy, the Netherlands or Belgium) it is also on your national ID card.
Deadlines
- New customers in the EU: asked for it during verification from 1 October 2026, and required from 31 October 2026.
- Existing customers in the EU: please add it by 31 December 2026.
- From 1 January 2027, EU customers without a tax ID on file cannot make transfers, and incoming bank deposits may be held until it is added.
What changes in the app Until your tax ID is on file, sending money to a bank account is paused. When you try, Moneda asks for your tax ID first. It takes under a minute, and you can send right after.
How to add it
In the Moneda app, go to Settings > Features and limits and tap Add tax ID. You are also asked for it when you send money to one of your bank accounts. Pick the country that issued your number, enter it as it appears on your documents, and tap Continue. We check the format and check digits as you type, so a typo is caught before it is saved.
Your tax ID is only shared for tax reporting required by law.
