Virtual Accounts
Virtual Accounts help and FAQs from Moneda on your self-custody account, stablecoins, transfers, security, and AI agent.
What are named virtual accounts?
A named virtual account is a set of bank details (for example an IBAN for EUR deposits, or a US bank account number + routing number for USD deposits) that is issued in your name (or your user’s name / identity) and which acts like a “payment address” rather than a typical bank account holding funds.
Which virtual accounts can I open on Moneda?
Moneda offers two virtual accounts: a EUR account with an IBAN, for SEPA transfers, and a USD account with a US account number, for ACH transfers.
USD accounts are not available to people who live in the EEA or the UK. See Features & Limits in the app for what is available to you.
How do virtual accounts work?
When someone sends a bank transfer to your virtual account, our partner MoonPay receives it over the bank payment rails (for example SEPA or ACH), converts it, and settles it into your own Moneda wallet as your EUR or USD balance.
When you withdraw to a bank account, the money is sent from your wallet to an address monitored by MoonPay. Once it settles on the blockchain, MoonPay sends the matching amount in regular currency to your bank account.
How do I open a virtual account on Moneda?
To request opening a virtual account on Moneda, navigate in the app to Home > Top Up > Bank Transfer. You will need to then complete an identity verification, accept MoonPay's Terms of Service, verify your phone number, and complete an AML questionnaire. Keep in mind that the processes for identity verification (KYC) and opening a virtual account with MoonPay are independent from one another and therefor can be approved or rejected independently.
Are virtual accounts issued under my name?
Yes, the virtual account details you receive are issued under your name. This means you can receive payments from your bank, your employer or third-parties into that dedicated account. Behind the scenes, the funds will be routed into your Moneda account in the form of stablecoins.
Can I open a virtual account even though I'm not based in the EU or US?
Yes, as long as your country isn't sanctioned and you complete both identity verification (KYC) and the anti-money-laundering (AML) questionnaire.
Once verified, you can open a EUR account. USD accounts are available too, except for people who live in the EEA or the UK. Availability and starting limits can vary by country.
Why was virtual account rejected even though my identity was successfully verified in the KYC application?
The KYC application being successfully approved is a prerequisite to request access to regulated financial services in Moneda. These financial services are offered by third-party providers that have their own compliance processes. Sometimes said providers might reject the virtual account application to users on Moneda despite the KYC process being successfully approved. We don’t have context as to why the account is rejected. If this is your case we recommend contacting directly with MoonPay via email: support@iron.xyz.
What documents do I need to open a virtual account?
To open a virtual account, you need to:
- Verify your identity with a government-issued photo ID (passport worldwide; national ID in the EU; driving licence in the EU, UK or US)
- Complete a quick selfie check
- Provide a recent proof of address
For proof of address, use a utility bill or bank statement that is dated within the last 3 months and shows your full name and address. An ID card doesn't count as proof of address.
You'll also answer a short questionnaire about your employment, income, how you plan to use the account and where your money comes from. For higher limits, you may be asked for documents that show where your money comes from.
Once approved, your account details appear in the app.
I can't see my account details (IBAN or account number)
Your account details are in Home > More > Virtual account details: the IBAN for your EUR account, and the account and routing numbers for your USD account.
They appear once your identity is verified and you've completed the application questionnaire. To check the status of your application and which accounts are available in your country, go to Settings > Features & Limits.
Right after your account is opened, the details can take a few minutes to appear.
If you live in the EEA or the UK, USD accounts are no longer available. Your EUR account keeps working as usual.
Third-party virtual account is not available in my country. Why?
The third-party virtual accounts are unfortunately not available in some countries. Moneda has no influence in this decision as it is due to the bank’s compliance process. We’re actively working with our virtual account provider, MoonPay, to enable support for more countries over time.
Can the virtual accounts on Moneda send or receive funds via SWIFT?
At the moment transfers via SWIFT are not currently supported by the virtual accounts on Moneda.
How do I transfer funds to Moneda from my bank account?
To add money from your bank into Moneda, you need to send a normal transfer using the account details we provide in the app. Note that you will need to complete your identity verification and AML questionnaire first. Steps:
- In the Moneda app, go to the Home screen.
- Select Top up from the account you want to fund (EUR or USD).
- Select the Bank Transfer option and select the currency you want to use.
- You’ll see the account details that you can copy to complete the transfer from your banking app.
How do I withdraw funds to my bank account from Moneda?
To move money out of Moneda and back into your bank account, you just need to make a withdrawal in the app. Make sure you’ve already registered your bank account in Transfer > My accounts section. Steps:
- Open the Moneda app and tap Transfer in the bottom navigation bar.
- Go to the My accounts tab.
- Select the saved bank account you’d like to withdraw to.
- Enter the amount and confirm the transfer.
How do I add my bank account to withdraw funds to?
You can add a payout bank account in the app and then withdraw to it any time. Steps:
- Open the Moneda app → Transfer (bottom navigation).
- Go to the My accounts tab.
- Tap Add bank account (top-right).
- Select the country of the account.
- Enter the account holder name, account number and any relevant information. Important considerations: • The account holder name must match the full legal name of the account beneficiary. • Some banks may reject payouts to other users or to business accounts. To transfer to other people or businesses, you can add the bank information to their contact. • If KYC isn’t complete, you may be prompted to finish verification before saving your bank account.
What are the processing and settlement times for bank transfers to and from Moneda?
Settlement times may not be instant. This is due to the applicable jurisdiction, payment rail used, cross-border nature of a transaction, settlement protocols, processing windows, and banking infrastructure involved, and may take up to seven days. You can review the settlement times for the different payment rails available: • SEPA & SEPA Instant (EUR): usually instant, up to 3 business days. • ACH (USD): a few hours up to 4–5 business days.
What are the minimum and maximum transfer amounts to or from bank accounts?
Minimums are simple: €1 for EUR transfers over SEPA, and $1 for USD transfers over ACH.
Maximums are not a fixed number that is the same for everyone. Your limit is worked out for your account from the information you gave during verification, so the only accurate figure is the one shown in the app.
How the maximum works:
- It is a rolling 52 week total, not a calendar year. Older activity drops out of the window as time passes, which frees up room again.
- Deposits and withdrawals are counted separately. Using up room on deposits does not reduce what you can withdraw.
- Some account types have no enforced cap at all.
What happens if you go over. Your transfer is not rejected and it is not lost. It is paused, and you are asked to provide proof of source of wealth within 24 hours. Supply it and the transfer continues. Miss the window and the transfer is returned to where it came from.
Because of this, do not try to stay under a limit by breaking one transfer into several smaller ones. It does not raise your limit, since the cap is on your total volume rather than on any single transfer, and it delays things.
If you are planning a large transfer, check your remaining room in the app first, and complete source of wealth verification in advance. That is what prevents a pause at the worst moment.
Can I transfer funds to third-party bank accounts?
If your account supports third-party payments, you can send funds to someone else’s bank account directly from Moneda.
How do I transfer funds to third-party banks?
- In the Moneda app, tap Transfer in the bottom navigation bar.
- Go to the Transfer tab.
- Tap Add contact and enter their details: full name, country of residence, and bank account information (IBAN/account number, plus SWIFT or routing code if required).
- Once saved, select that contact to send funds to their linked bank account.
Can I receive money from someone else's bank account?
It depends on your account. Some accounts accept transfers from anyone, and others only accept transfers from bank accounts in your own name.
If yours only accepts transfers from accounts in your name, your account details say so. A transfer from someone else will fail, and their bank returns the money to them.
To share your account details, go to Home > More > Virtual account details. Transfers from other people can take a little longer to arrive, because some are reviewed first. Reviews usually take 24 to 48 hours.
Can I cancel or change a bank transfer after I’ve confirmed it?
No. Once a bank transfer has been sent, it can’t be changed, cancelled or reversed by Moneda. Transfers are processed directly by your bank or our partner. Pay-Ins • If you’ve already confirmed the payment in your banking app, only your bank may be able to recall or cancel it (depending on their policy and timing). Moneda cannot reverse inbound transfers that have already been processed. • If you’ve entered the wrong amount or recipient, contact your bank immediately. Pay-Outs • Once a withdrawal or transfer to a third-party is confirmed in the Moneda app, it’s automatically sent for processing. Moneda cannot modify or stop a withdrawal once it’s been submitted. • In case you made a mistake, reach out to the beneficiary so that they can transfer your funds back.
My USD account is closing. Can I keep it?
Our banking partner closed USD accounts for people who live in the EEA or the UK on 26 August 2026. If that's you, your USD account can't be kept, and USD transfers sent to it after that date won't arrive. Your EUR account isn't affected and keeps working as usual.
If you live outside the EEA and the UK, you can move to a new USD account instead: open your USD account in the app and tap Move it now. Your new account has new details, so share them with anyone who pays you.
This was our banking partner's decision, so we can't make exceptions. If you're expecting a USD payment, let the sender know to use your EUR account or another method instead.
Someone sent money to my account and it hasn't arrived. Why?
A few things can delay or stop a bank transfer to your account:
- It's from someone else. Some accounts only accept transfers from bank accounts in your own name, and your account details say so if yours is one of them. A transfer from someone else then fails and is returned to the sender.
- It's being reviewed. Some transfers, for example from other people or close to your limits, are reviewed before they reach your balance. This usually takes 24 to 48 hours, and you don't need to do anything while it's reviewed.
- It's still in transit. SEPA transfers usually arrive within minutes and can take up to 3 business days. ACH transfers can take up to 4 to 5 business days.
If it's been longer than that, go to Help Centre > Talk to Support and tell us the sender's name, the amount and the date.
