Moneda vs ChatGPT for Investing (2026)

Moneda Learnings Series

Federico Kunze Küllmer is the founder of Moneda, one of the tools compared here.

Short answer: use ChatGPT for general questions, learning and reading your own files. Use Moneda when the research is about real investments: the agent shows the source behind each figure, searches SEC filings and earnings-call transcripts, and you can invest in the same app, approving every trade with your passkey. "ChatGPT for Financial Services" is a product for banks and research teams, not for individual investors. And you don't have to pick one: Moneda MCP lets ChatGPT work with your Moneda account.

If you invest on your own, you have probably asked ChatGPT about a stock. It's quick and it's free to start. This guide compares it with Moneda for that one job: researching and investing as an individual. For a wider look at chatbots against investing apps in general, see ChatGPT vs a dedicated AI investing app.

First, what is "ChatGPT for Financial Services"?

On September 10, 2026 OpenAI announced ChatGPT for Financial Services. The name makes it sound like the finance version of the ChatGPT you already use. It isn't.

OpenAI describes it as a tailored version of its workplace product for financial institutions, starting with investment banking and equity research. Here is what the announcement says it includes:

  • Built-in data from providers like Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase, covering earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals and private companies.
  • Access to a firm's existing data subscriptions, with sign-in integrations under way with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva and Moody's.
  • Work for banking teams: value analysis, LBO modelling (valuing a company bought mostly with borrowed money), buyer screening, earnings analysis and pitchbooks (the slide decks bankers show clients).
  • Citations that trace figures back to specific tables and passages.
  • Company controls: firms manage access and data connections centrally, under ChatGPT's enterprise security and governance.

Morgan Stanley and Evercore were its design partners. There is no public price; the page's button is "Contact sales".

So the buyer is a firm, not a person.

Where ChatGPT wins

General knowledge. ChatGPT can explain almost anything: what a dividend is, how interest rates affect bond prices, what a company actually sells. You can keep asking "why?" until it makes sense.

Your own files. Upload a PDF, a spreadsheet or your notes and ask questions about them. If you have a broker statement or an annual report on your laptop, ChatGPT will read it and summarise it.

Everything that isn't investing. It also writes emails, plans trips and fixes formulas. Moneda doesn't try to do any of that.

Thinking out loud. "What would have to go right for this company to double its sales?" is a good prompt for any chatbot. So is "argue the other side."

A real test: ChatGPT against the MSCI World

In 2025 Der Spiegel asked ChatGPT to build a portfolio to beat the MSCI World index. Over the year to July 2026 it did, about 42.5% against 25.8%. But some of the fund ID numbers it gave were wrong or did not exist, and the portfolio held the same few US tech companies several times over, through single stocks and its ETFs. The magazine's verdict was that one lucky year shows little. Our guide Can AI pick stocks? goes through the lessons.

That is the gap Moneda is built for: a source behind every figure you can check, and a view of what you already own before you add more of it.

Where Moneda wins

Figures you can check. Moneda AI, the agent, shows the source behind each figure. When it quotes a revenue number, you can see where it came from instead of trusting a fluent sentence.

Filings and transcripts built in. The agent searches SEC filings (the reports US companies must publish) and earnings-call transcripts (the written record of a company's call with analysts). You don't have to find and upload them first.

Both sides, every time. For any asset you get a bull case (why it could go up) and a bear case (why it could go down). Moneda never tells you to buy or sell. The decision is yours.

Your whole picture. Daily briefings, earnings summaries and a screener (a tool that filters companies by what you're looking for) are part of the app. You can also import portfolios you hold elsewhere as paper portfolios, which means tracked copies for analysis, not real trades.

Research and investing in one app. When you've made up your mind, you can invest without switching apps. Every trade needs your approval with your passkey.

A model tuned for finance. The agent runs on Numa 1, and its benchmark results are on that page. Moneda ran those tests itself. Vals AI's top published score of 65.4% is on a different, private test set, so the numbers aren't directly comparable.

Where Moneda stops. It invests in US-listed shares and ETFs only, so no European-listed stocks or funds.

Using both together

You don't have to choose. Moneda MCP connects ChatGPT and Claude to your Moneda account. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets a chatbot use tools and data from another service. You set the permissions, so you decide what the chatbot can see and do.

In practice, that means you can keep chatting in ChatGPT and get answers based on your real Moneda account. The setup is in how to connect Claude or ChatGPT to your investments. Give the least access you need, and leave anything that changes your account switched off until you want it.

FAQ
