ChatGPT Alternatives for Investing (2026)

Guides
Moneda Guides: an illustration of the Moneda face

This guide is by Moneda, one of the tools compared here.

Short answer: ChatGPT is a good general assistant, but it was not built around market data. If you want an AI that reads filings, shows where each number came from and lets you act on the result, look at a tool built for investing. If you want a broad research assistant, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity are the closest swaps. If you want raw data and charts, look at a terminal like Fiscal.ai or Koyfin.

  • Best overall for individual investors: Moneda (free; Premium from €9.99/month). The agent shows the source behind each figure, gives a bull and bear case, and you can invest in the same app.
  • Best for long written analysis: Claude (Pro $20/month)
  • Best for multi-page web research reports: Gemini (Google AI Pro €21.99/month)
  • Best for a free market dashboard with sources: Perplexity Finance (Pro from $17/month billed annually)
  • Best for filing data inside your own AI tools: Fiscal.ai (price not published)
  • Best for charts and screening across asset classes: Koyfin (Plus $39/month)
  • Best general AI to start with: ChatGPT (Plus €23/month)

What to look for

  • Where the numbers come from. A good tool shows the source for each figure, such as the company's 10-K (the annual report US companies file with the SEC). If you can't trace a number, don't use it.
  • Fresh data. Prices, earnings and ratios change. Check whether the tool reads live market data or only what it learned in training.
  • Both sides. Useful research gives you the bull case (why it could go up) and the bear case (why it could go down).
  • Coverage. Stocks only, or also ETFs (exchange-traded funds, baskets of assets that trade like one share), funds and crypto?
  • Can you act on it. Some tools stop at research. Others let you invest in the same place, which saves copying numbers across apps.
  • Price for what you will use. Many plans charge for usage limits you may never reach.

The tools

1. Moneda

What it is: An app (mobile, plus web) built in Europe where you research and invest in one place.

What the AI does: Moneda AI runs on Numa 1, Moneda's financial AI engine. The agent works figures out from company filings and live market data and shows the source behind each one. It gives you both sides of the story. It can score a company's 7 Powers, a framework for the lasting advantages behind a moat (a business's protection from competitors). It checks the quality of earnings, meaning whether reported profit is backed by real cash. It also gives a Moneda Ratio, a descriptive 1 to 7 scorecard. It pulls data straight from SEC filings and earnings-call transcripts, which you can search, and writes earnings summaries when companies report. A stock screener lets you describe an idea in plain language and find matching companies, and a daily briefing covers your portfolio and the market. Give it a goal and it builds an illustrative portfolio, tracks it, tells you when something changes, and stress-tests it against 2008, 2020 and 2022. You can benchmark a portfolio against gold, an index or any fund. Through Moneda MCP you can connect Claude or ChatGPT to your account and pick what each agent can see and do.

Data covered: Stocks, ETFs, a few commodities through ETFs (gold, silver, oil) and crypto. You can invest in US-listed shares and ETFs (fractional) and crypto in the same app. You approve every trade with your passkey (face or fingerprint), and the agent never tells you to buy or sell.

Price: Standard is free. Premium from €9.99/month. Ultra from €19.99/month, with more AI usage and 1, 5 or 10 commission-free trades a month depending on the plan. REST API and CLI come with Premium and Ultra.

Best for: People who want to research and invest in one app, with a source behind every figure and their approval on every trade. Most tools do one or the other.

Moneda's published scores (groundedness 97.9%, claim verifiability 92%, FLARE-CFA 95.6%, and 80% on the Vals AI Finance Agent Benchmark v2 public set) come from Moneda's own tests in October 2026. The Vals AI run was done and graded by Moneda. Vals AI's top published score is 65.4% on its private set, which is a different set, so the two numbers can't be compared directly.

Honest limitation: Investing covers US-listed shares and ETFs only, so no European-listed stocks or funds.

2. Claude

What it is: Anthropic's general AI assistant.

What the AI does: Writes, summarises and reasons over text you give it, such as an annual report or an earnings call transcript you paste in.

Data covered: Not documented on the pricing page for market data. Treat it as working from what you provide or connect.

Price: Free at $0. Pro is $20/month billed monthly, or $17/month billed annually ($200 up front). Max from $100/month.

Best for: Long, careful write-ups, like turning a 10-K into a one-page summary.

Honest limitation: It's a general assistant, so it won't place trades or keep a portfolio for you unless you connect another service.

3. Gemini

What it is: Google's AI assistant, sold through Google AI plans.

What the AI does: Deep Research turns your question into a multi-step plan. It searches the web, and if you allow it your Gmail, Drive and Chat, then writes a multi-page report in a few minutes.

Data covered: The open web plus your Google content if you opt in. Dedicated market data is not documented on the pages we read.

Price: Google AI Plus €4.99/month, Google AI Pro €21.99/month, Google AI Ultra from €99.99/month (prices shown for Germany).

Best for: Broad background reading on a sector or theme.

Honest limitation: The report is only as good as the websites it finds, so check key numbers against the filing yourself.

4. Perplexity Finance

What it is: The finance section of Perplexity, an answer engine that cites its sources.

What the AI does: Writes a market summary with linked sources and short notes on why stocks are moving.

Data covered: US markets, crypto, earnings, a screener, prediction markets, a watchlist and an S&P 500 heatmap. Stock cards show figures like the P/E ratio (share price divided by earnings per share) and dividend yield.

Price: The finance page opens without a paid plan. Pro is $17/month and Max $167/month, both "or equivalent, when billed annually".

Best for: A quick free look at what moved today and why.

Honest limitation: Its summaries lean on news coverage, and it's a research view only, with no investing built in.

5. Fiscal.ai

What it is: A financial data company offering a research Terminal, an MCP connector and a data feed API.

What the AI does: Its MCP connects accurate financial data to the AI tools you already use. The Terminal is an all-in-one research platform.

Data covered: Financial data extracted from company filings. Perplexity's finance lead is quoted on Fiscal.ai's site saying it delivers source-backed metrics soon after new disclosures.

Price: Price not published. Terminal and MCP each come with a 7 day free trial.

Best for: People who already use Claude or ChatGPT and want cleaner filing data behind them.

Honest limitation: You can't see the price before signing up, and it's a data and research tool, not a place to invest.

6. Koyfin

What it is: In its own words, a modern investment platform for advisors and investors.

What the AI does: No in-house AI features are listed on its home or pricing pages.

Data covered: Stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, government yields, indices, currencies, commodities, global economics, transcripts, crypto and news.

Price: Free $0, Plus $39/month, Premium $79/month, Advisor Core $209/month, Advisor Pro $299/month. Teams pricing is on request.

Best for: Building your own charts, dashboards and screens across many asset classes.

Honest limitation: You do the analysis yourself. It's a tool for people who like working through the data on their own.

7. ChatGPT

What it is: OpenAI's general AI assistant, and the one most people start with.

What the AI does: Chat, file analysis, deep research and charts. The pricing page lists a Finances feature, but does not explain it.

Data covered: Not documented on the pricing page for market data.

Price: Free €0, Go €8/month (may include ads), Plus €23/month, Pro from €103/month.

Best for: A general starting point if you also use AI for work and everything else.

Honest limitation: It's a general tool. For any number that matters, ask for the source and check it.

How to choose

If you mostly want to read and think, a general assistant (Claude, Gemini or ChatGPT) fed with real filings works well. If you want data you can screen and chart, Koyfin or Fiscal.ai fit better. If you want the agent to do the research with sources and then invest in the same app, try Moneda. And if you already like Claude or ChatGPT, Moneda MCP lets them work with your Moneda account under the permissions you set, with any payment still approved in the app.

FAQ

Is ChatGPT good for stock research?

It can explain concepts and summarise documents you give it. For prices and ratios, ask where each number comes from and check it against the company's filings.

Which ChatGPT alternative is free?

Moneda Standard, Claude Free, Koyfin Free, ChatGPT Free and the Perplexity Finance page all have a no-cost option. Fiscal.ai offers a 7 day trial.

Can an AI tell me what to buy?

Moneda AI won't tell you to buy or sell. It lays out the bull and bear case and the numbers, and the decision stays yours.

What is a DCF and can these tools do one?

A DCF (discounted cash flow) values a company by estimating its future free cash flow, the cash left after running and investing in the business, and converting it to today's money. Any assistant can walk you through one, but the result depends on the inputs, so check them.

Can I use Claude or ChatGPT with my investing account?

With Moneda MCP, yes. You choose what each agent can see and do, and payments are approved in the Moneda app.
