Backpack Alternatives for Stocks and AI (2026)

This guide is by Moneda, one of the apps compared here.
Short answer: Backpack is a crypto exchange with a wide trading menu, and in many countries it now sells real US stocks too. Two things may send you elsewhere. Its stock product is not offered on Backpack EU, the licensed service for Europe, and we found no AI research features on its official pages. If you want stocks, crypto and an AI that researches companies with sources, try Moneda. If you want social investing with an AI helper, try eToro. If you only want US stock tokens next to crypto in Europe, Robinhood is worth a look.
- Best for AI research and investing in the same app: Moneda (Standard free; Premium from €9.99/month)
- Best for social investing with a built-in AI helper: eToro ($1 or $2 per stock trade; no commission on ETFs)
- Best for US stock tokens alongside crypto, without AI: Robinhood Europe (no commission or added spread from Robinhood on stock tokens)
At a glance
We took these facts from each company's official pages in October 2026. Terms and country lists change often, so check them before you open an account.
| App | What the AI does | Stocks for a European reader | Crypto | Price (October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Backpack (starting point) | No AI features found on its official pages | Not on Backpack EU; real US stocks and ETFs elsewhere, outside the US, UK, UAE and Japan | Yes, plus perps and lending | Zero commission on stocks (spread may apply) |
| Moneda | A financial agent that researches companies in SEC filings and shows the source behind every figure | US-listed stocks and ETFs as tokenised shares | Yes | Standard free; Premium from €9.99/month; Ultra €19.99/month |
| eToro | Tori, an AI helper inside the app, plus agent-run portfolios | Stocks and ETFs | Yes, plus CFDs | $1 or $2 per stock trade; no commission on ETFs |
| Robinhood Europe | Its agentic trading is US only so far | US stock and ETF tokens | Yes | No commission or added spread from Robinhood on stock tokens |
What to look for
- Whether stocks are open to you. Crypto exchanges that add equities often exclude some regions. Check your own country, and check which company in the group serves you.
- What the AI actually does. Summarising prices is one job. Reading a company's annual report and explaining its risks is another.
- Whether you can check the answer. A figure with no source is hard to trust. Look for links back to the original filing.
- What a "stock" is in that app. Some apps hold real shares for you, others give you a token that tracks a share. Read how it is backed.
- Leverage. Perpetual futures and CFDs can lose you more than you expected, fast. If you only want to own shares, you can ignore them.
Why look beyond Backpack
Backpack
Backpack's main site lists crypto markets, perpetual futures on crypto and equities with up to 75x leverage, yield of up to 6.8% on USD balances, borrowing against collateral, and a separate self-custodial wallet that supports more than 20 chains. Its stock product, Backpack Securities, sells what it calls thousands of real US stocks and ETFs with zero commission, though quoted prices may include a spread. Holdings sit in the same account as your crypto, and Backpack's own explainer says selected stocks can be moved onchain as tokens on Solana.
For Europe, Backpack runs a separate service. The company says Trek Technologies SIA, operating as Backpack EU, was authorised by Latvijas Banka on 27 May 2026 as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA, the EU's crypto rules, and as a payment institution. That is a real strength if you trade crypto from the EU.
The catch for stock investors is on the eligibility page: Backpack Securities is not available in the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates or Japan, and it "isn't offered on Backpack EU". We also found no AI research features on Backpack's official pages. If you are in Europe and want stocks with AI research, the options below fit better.
The alternatives
Moneda
What it is: an app designed and built in Europe, where you research and invest in one place.
What the AI does: Moneda AI is the agent. It runs on Numa 1, Moneda's financial AI model. It reads the filings companies submit to the SEC (the US securities regulator) and the transcripts of their earnings calls, and it cites the filing or data behind every number. It gives you the bull case and the bear case, and a daily briefing. You can send it a screenshot, PDF or CSV of what you hold elsewhere, a Backpack account included, and it rebuilds the positions so you can analyse them. The agent never tells you to buy or sell.
What you can buy: US-listed stocks and ETFs (exchange-traded funds, baskets of assets that trade like a single share), crypto, and gold, silver and oil through ETFs. Stocks and ETFs come as tokenised shares through the brokerage partner Dinari. Each one is backed one-for-one by a real share held by a regulated broker. You approve every trade with your Passkey. More on investing with Moneda.
Price: Standard is free. Premium from €9.99/month and Ultra from €19.99/month. You get 1, 5 or 10 commission-free stock trades a month, depending on the plan.
Limitation: no perpetual futures, no lending and no European-listed shares. If leverage is why you use Backpack, Moneda does not replace that part.
eToro
What it is: an investing platform with a social side, where you can copy other investors, and a long list of stocks, ETFs and crypto.
What the AI does: Tori, its AI helper, remembers your portfolio, your interests and your earlier chats. It reviews your holdings, flags possible risks and uses Grok to show sentiment from conversation on X. It also helps you build Agent Portfolios from a strategy you describe, which you can pause or stop at any time. eToro says Tori is for information only, its answers may be inaccurate or incomplete, and it does not give investment advice.
Price: its fees page says a $1 or $2 commission may apply when you open and close a stock position, depending on your country and the exchange. ETF trades carry no commission. Withdrawing from a USD account costs $5. Currency conversion fees depend on where you live, how you pay and your eToro Club level.
Best for: people who want stocks and crypto in one app, with social features and an AI helper.
Limitation: eToro also offers CFDs (contracts for difference, leveraged products), and it states that 55% of retail investor accounts lose money trading CFDs with it.
Robinhood Europe
What it is: the European arm of the US broker, run by Robinhood Europe, UAB, which Robinhood says is authorised and regulated by the Bank of Lithuania.
What you can buy: crypto and US stock and ETF tokens. When it launched them in June 2025, Robinhood said EU customers would get zero commissions or added spreads from Robinhood (other fees may apply), dividends paid in the app and trading 24 hours a day, five days a week. Its July 2026 update says these Classic Stock Tokens stay available in the Robinhood Europe app.
What the AI does: Robinhood Agentic Trading, which connects an outside AI agent to a dedicated account, launched for US equities and options. That update does not say it is available in the EU, so for a European reader we count Robinhood as having no AI research yet.
Best for: people who want a familiar brand for US stock tokens next to their crypto.
Limitation: for now it is a closer match to Backpack's trading than to an AI research tool.
Which alternative to choose
Start with what you would do in the app most days. To study a company before you buy, with the source of each figure in front of you, pick Moneda. To follow other investors with an AI helper alongside, pick eToro. To hold US stock tokens and crypto with no AI involved, Robinhood Europe does that. And if you mostly trade crypto and perps from a country Backpack Securities covers, Backpack may already be enough.
Each of these does something well. Backpack has the widest crypto trading menu here and a MiCA licence in the EU. eToro covers far more markets than Moneda. Moneda gives you research you can check, in the app where you invest.

FAQ
Can I buy stocks on Backpack in Europe?
Not on Backpack EU. Backpack's support page says Backpack Securities isn't offered there, nor in the US, UK, UAE or Japan. In other countries where Backpack operates and stocks are permitted, verified users can buy real US stocks and ETFs.
Does Backpack have AI features?
We found none on its official pages in October 2026: no AI research, no AI helper and no agent for trading.
Is Moneda regulated like Backpack EU?
No. Moneda itself is not regulated. Its stocks and ETFs come through the brokerage partner Dinari, and each tokenised share is backed by a real share held by a regulated broker.
Can the AI trade for me?
In Moneda, no trade happens without your approval with your Passkey. eToro's Agent Portfolios are run by an agent from a strategy you set, and you can pause or stop them at any time.
Can Moneda analyse what I hold on Backpack?
Yes. Send Moneda AI a screenshot, PDF or CSV of your holdings and it rebuilds the positions, so you can analyse them without moving anything.
