> **Short answer**: six investing apps offer an official MCP server or agent connection you can use with Claude or ChatGPT on a personal account: Moneda, Scalable Capital, Robinhood, Public, Alpaca and Interactive Brokers. The big difference is how much the AI can do without you. Some let it place trades straight away; others make you approve each order.
>
> - **Best overall:** Moneda (free; Premium from €9.99/month), because the agent researches with a source behind every figure, and every trade still needs your passkey in the app
> - **Best for European brokerage clients:** Scalable Capital Agentic Investing
> - **Best for US traders who want a sandbox account for the AI:** Robinhood
> - **Best for stocks, options and crypto from Claude Desktop:** Public
> - **Best for developers and paper trading:** Alpaca
> - **Best for drafting orders you place yourself:** Interactive Brokers

## What MCP is, in plain words

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is a standard plug that lets an AI like Claude or ChatGPT talk to another service. If your investing app has an MCP server, you can connect it to your AI and ask things like "how much did my portfolio move this week?" without copying numbers across. Depending on the app, the AI can also prepare or place orders.

An API (application programming interface) does a similar job for programs you write yourself. A CLI is a command-line tool, run from a terminal. For a step-by-step setup, see [how to connect Claude or ChatGPT to your investments](/blog/how-to-connect-claude-or-chatgpt-to-your-investments).

## Comparison at a glance

Checked on each company's own pages in October 2026.

| App | Connection | What the AI can read | Can the AI trade? | Your approval |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moneda | MCP, REST API, CLI | Your Moneda account, with permissions you set | It can prepare actions | Every payment and trade approved in the app with your passkey |
| Scalable Capital | MCP, CLI | Portfolio, quotes, news, price history | Yes, plus savings plans | You confirm each trade before it runs |
| Robinhood | MCP | All accounts, positions, order history | Yes, only in a separate Agentic account | Off by default; you can turn it on |
| Public | MCP | Brokerage account | Yes: stocks, ETFs, options, crypto | You take the risk for AI trades |
| Alpaca | MCP, API | Account, positions, market data | Yes, live or paper | Set by you (API keys, tool limits) |
| Interactive Brokers | Connectors in ChatGPT, Claude, Grok; any MCP tool | What you allow | No, it drafts instructions | You place every order on IBKR's platform |

## Read-only or able to act: why it matters

An AI that can only read your account can, at worst, tell you something wrong. One that can trade can lose you money if it misreads a prompt. Before you connect anything, check three things:

- **Scope.** Can you limit what the AI sees and does?
- **Approval.** Does every order wait for you, or can the AI send it alone?
- **Money in and out.** Can the AI move cash? In Scalable's case, deposits and withdrawals stay in the app. In Moneda's, payments still need your approval in the app.

## The apps, one by one

### Moneda

Moneda is an app where you research and invest in one place. [Moneda AI](/financial-agent), the agent, runs on [Numa 1](/models/numa-1), Moneda's financial AI model. It shows where every number comes from, gives the case for and against, searches SEC filings and earnings-call transcripts, and sends daily briefings and earnings summaries. There's a screener too. You can import portfolios you hold elsewhere as paper portfolios, stress test them against past crashes, and compare them with gold or an index.

The [Moneda MCP](https://docs.moneda.com/mcp-overview) connects Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client to your Moneda account, with permissions you set. Payments are still approved in the app. A [REST API](https://docs.moneda.com/api/overview) and [CLI](https://docs.moneda.com/cli/overview) come with Premium and Ultra (see [developers](/developers)).

You can [invest](/invest) in US-listed stocks and ETFs and in crypto. Stocks are tokenized through Dinari: you hold a token that tracks the share price, not the share, and there are no voting rights. You approve every trade with your passkey, and Moneda never tells you to buy or sell. Standard is free, [Premium from €9.99 a month](/plans), Ultra €19.99, with 1, 5 or 10 commission-free trades a month by plan. It's made in Europe, open to US users, and self-custodial: your money sits in your own account.

Moneda's own tests from October 2026: 97.9% groundedness, 92% claim verifiability, 95.6% on FLARE-CFA and 80% on the public set of the Vals AI Finance Agent Benchmark v2, run and graded by Moneda. Vals AI's top published score, 65.4%, is on its private set, so the two aren't directly comparable.

Limitation: US-listed shares and ETFs only, no European-listed stocks or funds.

### [Scalable Capital](https://nl.scalable.capital/newsroom/agentic-investing)

Agentic Investing launched in August 2026 with an MCP server and a CLI, for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok. The AI can trade, set up savings plans, manage watchlists and price alerts, and pull news, real-time quotes and price history. You approve trades and savings plans before they run, and you confirm the cost information for each securities order. Deposits and withdrawals happen only in the app or on the web. You switch it on under Profile > Security.

Limitation: each AI tool may block some actions under its own rules.

### [Robinhood](https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/agentic-trading-overview/)

The Robinhood Trading MCP lets an outside agent read your accounts, positions and order history, but it can only trade in a separate Robinhood Agentic account, so only money you put there is at stake. It covers stocks, options and crypto. Trade approvals are off by default for outside agents. Turn them on and the agent can only propose orders that you place yourself.

Limitation: US only, and Robinhood says you're responsible for the trades your agent makes.

### [Public](https://public.com/mcp-trading)

Public's MCP server connects Claude Desktop to your brokerage account for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto and multi-leg orders. The setup guide runs it on your own computer, with your API key in a config file there.

Limitation: Public says you take on all the risk of trades your AI places.

### [Alpaca](https://docs.alpaca.markets/docs/alpaca-mcp-server)

Alpaca's official MCP server gives the AI market data for stocks, crypto and options, your balance, buying power and positions, and order placement. You can start on paper trading (fake money) and switch to live by changing keys. You can also limit which tools the AI gets. It needs Python and API keys, so it suits people comfortable with a terminal.

Limitation: built for developers more than for casual investors.

### [Interactive Brokers](https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/general/about/mediaRelations/7-28-26.php)

IBKR clients can link their account through the certified connector stores in ChatGPT, Claude and Grok, and since July 2026 from any MCP tool. The AI drafts instructions, and you turn each one into an order on an IBKR platform yourself. You decide what the AI can access.

Limitation: the AI can't send orders, which is safer but slower.

## FAQ

### Which finance apps have an MCP server?

Among investing apps with personal accounts: Moneda, Scalable Capital, Robinhood, Public, Alpaca and Interactive Brokers, all with official servers or connectors as of October 2026. Other brokers have unofficial community servers, but the broker doesn't stand behind them.

### Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to my brokerage account?

Yes, if your broker offers an official connection. You sign in or add an API key, choose what the AI can see, and then ask questions in chat. Our [setup guide](/blog/how-to-connect-claude-or-chatgpt-to-your-investments) walks through it.

### Can the AI trade without asking me?

It depends on the app. Moneda and Scalable Capital make you approve trades. Interactive Brokers makes you place orders yourself. Robinhood's outside agents can trade in the Agentic account unless you turn approvals on.

### Is it safe to give an AI access to my investments?

Start read-only or with approvals on, give the AI as few permissions as it needs, and check what it did in the app. Never paste passwords into a chat.

### Does Moneda tell me what to buy?

No. The agent shows its sources and the case for and against. It never tells you to buy or sell.
